Netflix and psychedelic documentaries

Various psychedelics

We think it is a good thing that more and more attention is being paid to the medicinal or therapeutic use of hallucinogenic drugs such as psychedelics. The group of psychedelic drugs is seen as a medicine against most psychological and psychosomatic disorders and that is why we would like all honest information to be available to everyone. Netflix has been busy releasing documentaries in this area in recent years.

There are now a lot of documentaries/films about psychedelics and their effects on Netflix. There is now quite a lot of information available about magic mushrooms containing psilocybin and the well-known LSD. To a lesser extent, ayahuasca, MDMA and mescaline are also discussed. We have a documentary on the list for every psychedelic.

8: Magic Medicine

Old research

Magic medicine is based on relatively old research and is therefore fairly low on the list. However, we do see this research as a starting signal for more research into psilocybin and depression and that is why this production deserves a mention in this list. In Magic Medicine you are taken with a number of test subjects who are participating in a scientific study in the United Kingdom.

7: The Goop Lab

We are not fans of Goop Lab itself, but during episode 1 we do see something interesting. During episode 1 of season 1 of Goop Lab with Gwyneth Paltrow we see part of a magic mushroom healing. Even though every ceremony looks different and we are not a fan of the ceremony shown, the episode does indicate the healing powers of psilocybin (magic mushrooms) during a therapeutic setting.

6: The Sunshine Makers

The Sunshine Makers is about the psychedelic LSD. It is not so much about the healing powers of LSD, but more about the history of LSD and the counter movement in the 60s.

5: The Last Shaman

Prevent depression and suicide by doing an ayahuasca ceremony with a lot of preparation in the jungle. Ayahuasca is not legal in the Netherlands, but it can be compared to a high dose of psilocybin (truffles). This film is a great example of how psychedelics can save lives.

4: Have A Good Trip

Although several psychedelic stories are told by (semi-) celebrities, this documentary mainly concerns LSD and psilocybin-containing mushrooms. LSD predominates. It is not so much an educational documentary, although the ending of the film had educational value. This documentary is mainly intended to be entertaining and that is what it is.

2: How To Change Your Mind

How To Change Your Mind is based on the book by Michael Pollan. The book well describes a number of different psychedelic substances and is detailed about them. Each episode is about a different psychedelic and discusses LSD, psilocybin, MDMA and mescaline. Due to its completeness, this documentary is in 2nd place on this list.

1: Fantastic Fungi

Fantastic Fungi is mainly about the medicinal effects of mushrooms and other fungi. Furthermore, it is also a lot about the psilocybin-containing mushrooms from which you can have a psychedelic/mystical experience. We think this documentary best explains the power of mushrooms and it is also beautifully filmed. Watch the trailer of Fantastic Fungi here to get an idea of the different topics.

A Trip to Infinity

Infinity and psychedelic sessions seem to go hand in hand. Infinity is too big to comprehend with a finite brain and that is why it is nice to get inspiration about what infinity can mean. The concept of infinity may come back during your psychedelic trip!
