I am writing to request more information about the possibility of undergoing individual psilocybin-assisted therapy with your team. I have been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and suffer from intense fears related to death, pain, loneliness, and similar existential concerns.

At the moment, I am still taking antidepressant medication, but I am planning to taper off gradually under the supervision of my psychiatrist in order to prepare for psilocybin treatment.

I would be grateful if you could provide more details on the following:

  • What is the current waiting time for an initial appointment?
  • What are the costs involved?
  • How many days does the therapy typically take?
  • What is the usual structure or process of the therapy?
  • Would it be possible for my wife to accompany me as a translator? I do not speak English well, and we would prefer to communicate in German, if possible

For your diagnosis of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and existential fears, an individual psilocybin session is maybe a good option, especially since you are planning to taper off antidepressants under supervision. It's important that SSRIs are fully out of your system before a session, to ensure both effectiveness and safety. However, if you're unable to taper off the medication completely, a psilocybin session is still possible — though the therapeutic effects may be somewhat diminished due to the interaction with SSRIs.

Bringing your wife as a translator

Yes, your wife is welcome to accompany you as a translator. Being able to communicate in your native language can significantly enhance your sense of safety and comfort, which positively contributes to the therapeutic process. When you think your wife can translate for you during the session and you feel comfortable to do the session like this in English, you can also look to do a session with one of the other guides/therapists.

Timespan and psilocybin session:

The core of the psilocybin-assisted therapy typically takes place over one day, during which the psychedelic session itself occurs and lasts about 5 to 7 hours.

However, the entire therapeutic process is broader and includes:

  1. Preparation phase (before the session): This includes an intake, setting intentions, dietary guidelines, preparation calls — typically spread over 1–2 weeks depending on your readiness and medication tapering.

  2. The psilocybin session: A full-day session, usually from morning until late afternoon or early evening.

  3. Aftercare and integration (after the session): A follow-up contact, such as a phone call or email, typically occurs within a few days. Optional integration sessions or coaching can be added depending on your needs.

In total, expect the whole journey — from intake to integration — to span a few weeks, but the active therapeutic day is just one. This means that when you come from abroad you need to comeover for at least the day of the session. We strongly advise to stay an extra day after the session to recover and without any obligations. Ideally you would arrive on day 1, day 2 is the psychedelic session, day 3 is recovery day and day 4 is totally up to you what you prefer to do.

Structure of the psilocybin session itself

The structure of the psilocybin session itself can vary but is designed to support safety, therapeutic depth, and emotional comfort. Here's what you can expect on the day of the session:

1. Arrival and grounding
The day begins with a conversation to check in emotionally, review your intentions, and ensure you feel safe and supported. You'll also go over the guidelines and agree on communication signals, especially important if you’re not fluent in English — in your case, with your wife as a translator or a German-speaking guide. We also prepare you how to act during certain phases of the trip.

2. Ingestion of psilocybin (truffles)
You’ll take the psilocybin in the form of fresh truffles, typically blended into a tea or smoothie to ease digestion. The dosage is tailored to your goals (therapeutic or introspective) and experience level.

3. Onset phase (first 15–60 minutes)
During this period, the effects gradually build. You’ll be encouraged to relax — lying down with an eye mask and music — and start focusing inward.

4. Peak experience (1–4 hours)
This is the most intense phase. It may involve visual imagery, deep emotional processing, and spiritual or existential insights. Your facilitator remains by your side the entire time to ensure your safety and offer gentle guidance if needed. Your wife, if present, may sit quietly or assist with translation if necessary.

5. Descent and reflection (2–3 hours)
As the effects begin to wear off, you’ll start coming back to everyday awareness. This is when many people feel relief, clarity, or even euphoria. You can begin to discuss your experiences, insights, or emotions — either quietly or with light guidance.

6. Closing the session
Once you're fully grounded we review how the session went and check if we can already integrate some elements of the trip. You'll receive guidance on how to approach the integration phase in the days that follow.

Next steps

We aks every new cliënt to fill in the intake to make sure we spot contra-indication when present. You can find the intake in German here: https://triptherapie.nl/de/einnahme-trip-therapie/

After we have received the intake and a reservation for a date, we'll check one final time for safety and request a down-payment. Once the down-payment has been made we'll cook up your personal psychedelic preparation plan.
