Are the public psilocybin sessions at the Schiedam Loft always in Dutch, and is it possible to participate if I don’t speak Dutch well?
Depending on the situation, such as the context, the subject of the conversation, or my current anxiety level, my understanding of Dutch can range from about 70% down to only a few words, especially when Flemish accents are involved. My speaking skills remain very limited regardless of the setting. Since being in the presence of warm and welcoming people usually has a positive effect on my mood, I am considering attending a public session. However, the difficulty of not being able to easily follow or actively participate in conversations could make the whole experience awkward for both myself and others, while at the same time reducing the potential value of the session for me.
While some public truffle ceremonies at the Psychedelic Loft in Schiedam are conducted in Dutch when all participants are Dutch-speaking, the language is highly adaptable based on the group. During most of our psilocybin truffle ceremonies non-Dutch-speaking participants are present, facilitators frequently switch to English, particularly during introductions, group sharing moments, and guidance. This ensures that everyone feels seen, safe, and included.
In your case, with partial understanding of Dutch that fluctuates depending on accents and your current state, it's completely understandable to worry about following conversations or contributing fully. That said, many participants arrive with varying language abilities, and the facilitators are trained to create a warm, inclusive, and supportive environment where communication goes beyond just words.
Notably, when Reineke or Gijs guide the ceremony, communication can be held fluently in Dutch, English, and German. They are both multilingual and experienced in adapting their language and tone to suit the emotional and linguistic needs of each participant.
Additionally, very soon Triptherapie will also have French and Spanish-speaking guides available, who will assist not only in private sessions but also during public truffle ceremonies. This further broadens the accessibility of our group events for international participants.
To ensure the best possible experience, it’s helpful to mention your language preferences clearly in the intake form. You can request to join a session guided by a multilingual facilitator like Reineke or Gijs, or one that includes other English-speaking participants.
If you’d prefer more individualized support, a private or duo psilocybin session is also an option — providing a tailored environment free from any language barriers, where the therapeutic journey can fully center around your comfort and goals.
