The consciousness
Humans consist of approximately 60 trillion cells. That's 60,000,000,000,000, and that's not even mentioning the 10,000 species of bacteria with their own populations. These cells are living factories in their own right, working together. Some of these cells are brain cells. These brain cells work together with other cells in the body. The specific configuration of the brain contains processes that make us believe we are something to someone.

Consciousness makes life special (difficult)
Understanding our existence gives us something extra in life under normal circumstances. These extras include pleasure, finding a purpose in life, and other things you can call positive. So it's very different from being a robot, just living out your life without realizing you exist. Yet, realizing we exist can also make us realize we're not having a good time. Sometimes it's our ego, the little voice in our head, that tells us to worry. Sometimes rightly so, but more often wrongly. But thankfully, we are more than just that little voice in our head.

Ego death from psychedelics can help
Meditation and psychedelic ceremonies allow us to transcend the ego's self-destructive thoughts. Even if the ego is very strong, a high dose of psychedelics can induce ego death. This high dose can offer a solution to self-destructive thoughts by temporarily shutting down the mind and then allowing it to think differently.
