The truffle ceremony

A truffle ceremony can have various names such as “psilocybin ceremony”, “magic mushroom ceremony”, “shroom ceremony” or simply “plant medicine ceremony”. In the Netherlands, we primarily call this a truffle ceremony because only the magic truffle, which contains psilocybin, is legal. During our truffle ceremonies, we offer you many extras so that you, as a participant, can experience the powerful effects, insights and therapeutic benefits of magic truffles. For example, you can use various additions with us or simply opt for a higher dosage if possible. We adapt the ceremony and preparation based on your abilities and personal wishes.

The magic of truffles

The magic truffle ceremony is called magical because of the unique and profound experiences participants can undergo during it. These experiences are often transformative and can lead to important insights about themselves and life. Magic truffles are used during the ceremony. These truffles contain psilocybin, a psychoactive substance that opens the mind to new perspectives and shifts in consciousness.

One of the reasons the truffle ceremony is experienced as magical is its ability to process emotional blockages and trauma. Many people come to the ceremony hoping to overcome anxiety, stress, or depression. The psychedelic experience can help them view these issues from a new perspective and let go of what's holding them back. This process of emotional healing can lead to a sense of liberation and enlightenment.

In addition, participants often experience a deeper connection with nature and everything around them. The truffles can create a sense of unity and connectedness, leading to a heightened awareness of the beauty and complexity of life. This can add a spiritual dimension to the experience, making participants feel more in harmony with the world.

The magic truffle ceremony can often also increase creativity and empathy. Many participants report feeling more open to new ideas and perspectives after the ceremony. This can help them think more creatively and communicate better with others. The insights gained during the ceremony can also contribute to personal growth and development.

Another aspect that makes the ceremony magical is the variety of experiences participants can have. No two ceremonies are the same, and outcomes can vary greatly depending on the person, the dosage, and the setting. This makes each ceremony unique and can lead to surprising and unexpected insights.

All these elements together make the magical truffle ceremony a unique and valuable experience that can help participants transform their lives for the better. The combination of psychedelic experiences, emotional healing, spiritual growth, and personal development makes the ceremony a magical experience.

The effects of psilocybin truffles

Psilocybin is a psychoactive substance found in magic truffles. After conversion into psilocin, it has various effects on the brain, including an increased sensation of connectedness with the environment, changes in perception and distortions of the sense of time. Psilocin works by binding to serotonin receptor sites in the brain, particularly the 5-HT2A receptor. This leads to a change in stimulus processing and neurochemistry. These changes are primarily responsible for the euphoric and hallucinogenic effects. For a comprehensive explanation of how psilocybin works and what it can be used for, please read via the following button.

Psilocybin dosage during the ceremony

The dosage of the truffles, and thus the psilocybin, significantly influences the strength of the psychedelic effects. The higher the dosage, the greater the chance of strong stimulation of the serotonin receptor (5HT2a), leading to more intense effects. The effects are divided into different trip levels, with lower doses producing less intense experiences and higher doses leading to stronger hallucinations and changes in perception. See below for the different dosages and trip levels so we can work with you to determine the best dosage.

Special combinations

During our magical truffle ceremonies, participants can choose various additions to deepen the psychedelic experience. For example, you can combine the truffles with cacao, blue lotus, passion flower (psiloflora), or Banisteriopsis caapi (psilohuasca). These additions can help enrich the experience, promote feelings of relaxation and connection, and enhance the spiritual dimension of the ceremony. Each of these additions has unique properties that can influence and deepen the journey, allowing participants to enjoy an even more intense and meaningful experience.

Psilohuasca ceremony

Psilohuasca is similar to the ayahuasca experience because it's a combination of a psychedelic and an MAOI. In ayahuasca, the psychedelic is DMT, while psilohuasca uses psilocybin or psilocin.

Psiloflora ceremony

Psiloflora is similar to ayahuasca and psilohuasca in terms of hallucinations, but is less intense for the body. It also doesn't require a strict diet and has fewer contraindications.

Cacao truffle ceremony

In the cacao truffle ceremony, the effects of cacao are used as a heart opener, but it also slightly extends the truffles' effect. Cacao can also improve mood.

Blue lotus truffle ceremony

Blue lotus during a truffle ceremony gives the truffles a slightly stimulating yet dreamy effect. This combination is perfect for those seeking a spiritual or healing journey.

Pure truffle ceremony

Many of the aforementioned combinations are primarily used by people who already have experience with psychedelics like truffles, DMT, 2C-B ayahuasca, LSD, and other hallucinogens. For most novices, it's recommended to focus solely on the effects of psilocybin and therefore choose truffles alone. This is because using truffles alone offers a more predictable potency and easier dosing than using combinations. If people choose to use truffles alone, we can also start with an introductory dose and assess whether to increase the dosage after an hour of ingestion.

A truffle ceremony is a guided experience using truffles containing psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) in a ritual or therapeutic setting. These ceremonies take place in a safe, supportive environment under the guidance of our experienced trip-sitters and therapists. The goal is usually personal growth, spiritual exploration, emotional healing, or processing trauma.

During a truffle ceremony the participant goes through several stages:

  1. PreparationThis includes a conversation with the facilitator to discuss intentions, answer questions, and share any fears or expectations. Physical and mental preparation, such as fasting or meditation, may also be part of this process.

  2. IntakeThe truffles are consumed, often in a calm, serene environment. The dosage is adjusted to the participant's experience and needs.

  3. The experienceAfter ingestion, the psilocybin begins to take effect, which can lead to profound emotional, visual, and spiritual experiences. The facilitator remains present to offer support, ensure safety, and provide guidance as needed.

  4. IntegrationAfter the ceremony, there is time for reflection and discussion of the experience. Integration is a crucial part, during which the insights and emotions that emerged during the ceremony are processed and applied to daily life.

At Triptherapie, truffle ceremonies cost 650 euros per participant. This price includes psychedelics, food, drink and accommodation. Personal preparation and integration are also included in the price.

At present, health insurers do not reimburse psychedelic therapy. For the time being, psychedelic therapy is not yet recognised as a medical treatment and is rather seen as coaching under the influence of a recreational substance. We expect that psychedelic therapy will only be partially reimbursed under certain conditions by 2027/2028. By that time, more research will have been completed and health insurers may be less hesitant.

Yes, we've had a savings pot since January 2025 to provide discounts for people on low incomes. If you have an income of less than 30k euros per year, you can already make use of a subsidy of up to a maximum of 450 euros. This already makes it possible for people on low incomes to take part in a truffle ceremony for just 200 euros! See also: Application for subsidy

Truffle ceremony experiences can vary greatly depending on the person, dosage, setting, and intention. Here are some common experiences participants may have during a truffle ceremony:

1. Emotional Liberation
  • Many people experience a profound emotional release, with long-stored feelings of sadness, fear, anger, or joy surfacing. This can be therapeutic, especially for those coping with trauma.

2. Visual and Sensory Changes

6. Connection with Nature and Others
  • Many people feel a deeper connection with nature, other people, or the universe. This can bring a sense of unity and love.

7. Confronting Fear or Shadow Sides
  • Sometimes the experience brings up difficult emotions or memories, challenging the participant to accept and integrate them. This can be an important part of the healing process.

9. Euphoria and Bliss
  • Many participants experience periods of intense joy, bliss, or a sense of peace and acceptance.

10. Integration of Insights
  • After the peak of the experience, participants can reflect on what they've learned and how they can apply these insights in their daily lives. This is a crucial part of the process.

However, if you would like to read reviews from clients who have previously had a session with us, please see Triptherapie reviews.

Around 75 per cent of participants feel tired the day after the truffle ceremony. This is due to the fact that some trips are intense and falling asleep after truffle use can sometimes be a bit more difficult. We recommend not scheduling any appointments the day after the ceremony.

Most people are under the influence of truffles for between 4 and 7 hours. Depending on the dosage and how the body works, this varies per person. However, the most intense effects last for about 2-3 hours, which we call the peak experience. Furthermore, after the trip there is an afterglow that can last for several hours.

On average, people can't drive again for 10-14 hours after taking truffles. However, we advise against driving until you feel the effects have completely worn off. Our truffle ceremonies include an overnight stay, and you can wait until the effects have fully worn off.
