The preparation of trip therapy

In addition to advice on improving neurochemistry (supplements, nutrition, and exercise), we also offer reading and viewing tips. By absorbing certain information, specific ideas emerge. These ideas are like seeds that can sprout into insights during a psychedelic session. Watching certain films can therefore have a powerful effect on the outcome of a psychedelic trip.

My Octopus Teacher

A film we'd like to share with everyone, even if you're not planning a psychedelic session, is the documentary "My Octopus Teacher." What messages can you draw from this film that might be useful in psychedelic therapy?

Other viewing suggestions

We've previously compiled a list of Netflix movies about psychedelics. Here's a summary of these other suggestions.

Heal

Heal isn't about psychedelics, but rather about the self-healing effect our bodies have. This self-healing effect can become active when stress and anxiety are reduced, and psychedelics can help with that. Psychedelics often work better than all the alternative methods mentioned. Despite the fact that psychedelics aren't mentioned, Heal is still interesting to explore.

The Last Shaman

Prevent depression and suicide by performing a meticulously prepared ayahuasca ceremony in the jungle. Ayahuasca isn't legal in the Netherlands, but it's comparable to a high dose of psilocybin (truffles). This film is a prime example of how psychedelics can save lives.

The Goop Lab

The rest of Goop Lab contains a lot of nonsense and should be taken with a grain of salt, but during episode 1, we do see something interesting. During episode 1 of season 1 of Goop Lab with Gwyneth Paltrow, we see part of a magic mushroom healing. Although each ceremony looks different, and we're not a fan of the one shown, the episode does demonstrate the healing powers of psilocybin (magic mushrooms) in a therapeutic setting.

The Sunshine Makers

The Sunshine Makers is about the psychedelic LSD. It's not so much about the healing powers of LSD, but more about the history of LSD and the counter-movement of the 1960s.

The Mind Explained

In our opinion, The Mind Explained on Netflix is the best preparation and most informative series when it comes to the workings of the brain and psychedelics. Season 1 contains 5 episodes, and they're all worth watching! From how memory works and why we dream, you'll move on to which parts of the brain cause stress and anxiety. After those first 3 episodes, you'll learn how mindfulness and psychedelics can activate the body's self-healing capacity. If you're short on time... forget the previous tips and just watch The Mind Explained!

Have a Good Trip: Adventures in Psychedelics

While several psychedelic stories are told by (semi-)celebrities, this documentary primarily focuses on LSD and psilocybin mushrooms. LSD predominates. It's not so much an educational documentary, although the ending had some educational value. This documentary is primarily intended to be entertaining, and that's exactly what it is.
