What is a truffle trip?
A truffle trip is an inner journey initiated by ingesting magic truffles. These magic truffles contain substances that make you hallucinate, such as psilocybin and psilocin. Hallucinating is similar to dreaming with an "awake consciousness", but if you lie down and pretend to go to sleep, you will soon find that the truffles take you on a journey. We call the journey the truffle journey, inner journey, tripping or introspection.
The technical side of the truffle journey lies in the field of neurochemistry. You can read more about how psilocybin, the substance present in truffles, is converted to psilocin and what it then does in the brain via the button below.
The inner journey on truffles
What happens once the truffle trip starts? It is difficult for people who have never experienced a psychedelic trip to explain what happens at the peak of the trip, but let's start at the beginning.
What happens once the truffle trip starts? It is difficult for people who have never experienced a psychedelic trip to explain what happens at the peak of the trip, but let's start at the beginning. The beginning is often marked by various forms of resistance.
After about 15 minutes after ingestion, the first effects can occur and these are usually only physical. The negative physical effects that may occur during this phase are nausea, dizziness, feeling hot/cold and shakiness. These are physical forms of resistance.
Besides the unpleasant sensations of the body, pleasant sensations may actually be felt, such as calmness or smiling. Not much later, visual effects start to kick in. The first visual effects often involve that things seem to wave or vibrate, and not much later most people often see more colours and depth. By now, if we are at half an hour to three quarters of an hour after ingestion, most people will also see more and more geometric patterns in everyday objects or with their eyes closed.
By now, if we are at about 45-60 minutes after ingestion, it is wise to embark on the inner journey. Pretending to take an afternoon nap will allow you to better keep up with the movement of the truffle journey. You will then increasingly let the truffles do the work, while you yourself no longer try to influence the trip. Gradually, you will still slowly start experiencing the peak effects of the truffles, which occur about 75-90 minutes after taking them.
Introspection during peak
If, during the peak of the trip, you allow yourself to be carried away by the trip, you take a journey inward or the subconscious. Gradually, the random geometric shapes may become a clear image or story. Sometimes the images remain random and there is no story in them. What often happens is that self-awareness shrinks and it seems you no longer exist and that you feel connected to something bigger than yourself. Even time no longer seems to exist.
After the peak phase
If you are just coming out of the peak and it has been a spiritual experience, some things may fall into place, while other things cannot be contained in words. It is then wise not to try too hard to understand everything. In fact, after the peak, you come back to sober with some waves in intensity of the effects. This process of getting sober can take several hours, and this very phase is nice to think about your goals from the trip.
Five hours after the truffles
Most people are not completely sober five hours after taking a high dose of truffles, but already able to function reasonably normally. You are not yet able to drive a car, but walking the dog might be possible. During this phase, it is often wise to discuss the trip and see together what the truffle trip can do for you. Furthermore, most people are tired about 5 to 6 hours after starting the trip and it is time to take it easy.
Truffle trip experiences
The actual experience during a truffle trip varies per person, per dosage and per moment. For instance, some make contact with entities, aliens, god, deceased loved ones, past lives or other spiritual matters. Other people may reconnect better with themselves, emotions and memory. So it's a different experience for everyone, which is why it's nice to check previous experiences. We give below some where the trip experienced is well described.
Traveling on guided truffles
We offer several options to help you on a truffle trip. Group truffle tours are the truffle ceremonies called. In this, you thus participate with other strangers in group ceremonies. Another option is to be guided privately and individually by a therapist during your truffle journey. The latter is called a truffle session. Which do you prefer?
