Gamma-aminobutyric acid
GABA stands for Gamma-aminobutyric acid and is a neurotransmitter with an inhibitory function on the nervous system. Like other neurotransmitters, the presence of neurotransmitters determines the conduction of stimuli between neurons. Due to its inhibitory (inhibitory) function, GABA can provide relief from overactivity and reduce stress and anxiety responses. GABA also plays a role in relaxation to fall asleep.

How exactly GABA works
Watch the video below for a detailed explanation of how GABA inhibits excitability via the GABA receptors.
Do you have too little GABA?
A GABA deficiency can cause several complaints ranging from muscle tension, poor sleep to depression. GABA is therefore used against ADHD, high blood pressure, sleep disorders, anxiety disorders and stress. During the registration and intake of trip therapy, a neurotransmitter test is used to determine whether you have a GABA deficiency, among other things, so that we can make advice on how to get the neurotransmitters in balance before we do a psychedelic session.
Increase GABA
You can increase GABA through diet and supplements. Combining GABA at the same time with medications such as benzodiazepines, barbiturates, antidepressants or alcohol can cause problems and simultaneous use is not recommended. One should also be careful with products that may increase the risk of bleeding.
Nutrition and GABA
The GABA concentration can be increased by eating oily fish, broccoli, bananas, almonds, walnuts, spinach and whole grain products. GABA supplementation is usually not necessary with a varied diet with a low level of sugars and a higher level of proteins, green vegetables and complex carbohydrates.
GABA supplements
Temporary GABA supplementation can be a good start in many cases. The following supplements will help you get GABA back to the desired level.
GABA
Vitamin B complex for support
Magnesium for support
Protein powder if protein intake is low
Activities for more GABA
Cuddling not only increases the concentration of GABA but also dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin. All these substances improve a person's state of mind. Making music or dancing also increases GABA, among other things. Walking in a natural environment and meditation also provide peace of mind and can also increase GABA.
Psychedelic therapy for more GABA
Psychedelic therapy can indirectly improve GABA production by suppressing stress. Stress, which includes cortisol, causes a higher consumption of building materials and auxiliary substances of several neurotransmitters. As a result, the stress-reducing properties can indirectly reduce GABA insufficiency. The combination of diet, supplementation and psychedelic therapy usually works even better.
