Truffel therapy using the magical truffle

Truffel therapy is a form of guided psychedelic coaching in which magic truffles with psilocybin are used as a tool for self-exploration and personal development.

During a session, your perception, emotions, thoughts, and sense of time can change. Some people experience a greater detachment from established patterns or gain new insights into their behavior, relationships, and personal situation as a result. A psychedelic experience can also be confrontational or overwhelming. Therefore, preparation, guidance, and integration are important components of each journey.

What are magic truffles?

Magic truffles are the underground sclerotia of certain mushrooms. They can contain psilocybin and psilocin. Mushrooms and magic truffles are therefore related, but not exactly the same product.

Psilocybin is converted in the body into psilocin. This substance affects the serotonergic system among other things and can cause changes in perception, mood, thoughts, and time perception. The strength and effect can vary. This is not only due to the product, but also to your body, mood, expectations, environment, and any medication or other substances you may be taking.

In the Netherlands, we use magic truffles to comply with the law.

Magic truffles or psilocybin?

The use of psilocybin from synthetic or purified sources can provide greater accuracy and control in scientific research. Magic mushrooms and truffles contain varying amounts of psilocybin, making it difficult to control doses and ensure consistency in study participants. In clinical trials, researchers use precise doses of psilocybin to study the effects on brain activity, emotions, and behavior in different populations. By using a standardized, controlled substance, researchers can more accurately assess the effects of psilocybin and gain a better understanding of its therapeutic potential. Psilocybin is therefore preferred over truffles in scientific research because it offers greater precision, consistency, and safety.

For therapeutic sessions with magic mushrooms, no exact amount is required and a deviation of approximately 10% can be tolerated. It does not matter if someone takes a few mg more or less psilocybin than expected. As an additional benefit, it is noted that the other psychoactive substances, which have a lesser effect on the effects, can create a broader experience than just psilocybin alone.

In short, a precisely measured amount of psilocybin is useful for research, but not necessary in truffle therapy.

Why truffle therapy is done

A psychedelic experience can help us to pause and reflect on personal questions. Participants, for example, experience more insight into recurring patterns, a different perspective on relationships, or a greater awareness of emotions and needs.

That doesn’t mean that psilocybin automatically leads to improvement. An experience can actually bring up difficult feelings, memories, or uncertainties. Also, insights aren’t always immediately clear or applicable. The period after the session is therefore important: in this time, you can calmly explore what the experience means for you and what changes you might want to make.

Scientific research is being conducted into psilocybin for conditions such as depression, anxiety, and addiction problems. Some results are promising, but the research is still in its early stages. The results are promising and are often seen in truffle sessions as well, although no scientific studies have been conducted with magic truffles.

Therefore, we do not promise healing or a quick result. However, we ensure meticulous preparation, a calm setting, and space for processing afterwards.

For whom might a session be suitable?

People sign up for truffle therapy for various reasons. Some want to better understand themselves or explore personal patterns. Others seek support in a process of change, a relationship issue, or a period in which they are stuck.

During the preliminary phase, we discuss your situation, expectations, and needs for help. We also ask about your mental and physical health, previous experiences, medication, and substance use. Based on this, we assess whether a session would be appropriate and which form of support would be most effective.

Truffel therapy is not suitable for everyone. Participation may be advised against if there is a personal or familial predisposition to psychosis, a history of mania or bipolar disorder, severe mental instability, or certain physical conditions. Medication and other substances can also have an impact on safety.

Never stop taking prescribed medication on your own in order to attend a session. Always discuss medication with the prescribing doctor and mention everything during the initial consultation.

How does a process work?

A session begins with completing an intake form. In it, we assess whether your question, expectations, and health are suitable for a guided psychedelic session. We also discuss what you can expect, how to prepare, and what you need after the session.

During the session, we create a calm environment and remain available for guidance. You will have space to go through your own experience. We do not try to fill or direct that experience for you, but we help when you experience tension, anxiety, or confusion.

Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to discuss it further. When it is appropriate, we will schedule a separate integration meeting. In this meeting, we will look together at your experience and at possible follow-up steps in your daily life.

Individual session, duo session or group ceremony

We offer various forms of guidance. An individual session provides privacy and personal attention. A duo session may be appropriate for partners, friends, or family members who wish to experience an experience together. A group ceremony has a shared structure and requires you to feel comfortable in the presence of other participants.

No form is automatically better than the other. Based on the initial assessment, we look at which setting best suits your question, experience, and need for privacy.

Individual

An individual truffle session offers privacy and personal attention. Especially for therapeutic sessions, an individual session is often chosen.

Duet session

A duo session can provide a space to pause together to reflect on communication, trust, closeness, or recurring patterns. Some couples experience that during a session they look more openly at themselves and each other.

Group sessions

In a group session, you take part in a group with other strangers at two-day or longer retreats. The integration-focused retreats are particularly interesting for therapeutic purposes.

Who is guiding the sessions?

Our team consists of counselors with different backgrounds in psychology, psychosocial counseling, mental health care, lifestyle, and psychedelic counseling. The training, experience, and role vary from person to person.

In advance, you can research and choose who will accompany your session and what expertise is involved. Not every facilitator is a psychologist, psychotherapist, or a BIG-registered therapist. Therefore, please also check the profiles below for the best fit for you and, if necessary, contact them. For additional information, we have icons for each facilitator at the bottom of the profile card with links to LinkedIn profiles, availability, and reviews of the respective facilitator.

If you require additional psychological or psychiatric support, we will discuss it or refer you to a regular healthcare professional if that is desired.
