Psychedelic relationship therapy for couples
Couples therapy using MDMA or psilocybin is a relatively unknown therapy to help couples overcome emotional blocks and improve communication. Through the use of these psychoactive substances under the guidance of an experienced therapist, couples can safely and effectively achieve deeper levels of emotional connection.
Why psychedelic relationship therapy works
Psychedelic relationship therapy can be effective for several reasons. First, psychedelics can promote a deeper connection between partners by expanding consciousness and strengthening feelings of empathy, love, and connection. This can lead to a deeper understanding of each other's needs, desires and emotions. This can improve communication and intimacy in the relationship.
In addition, psychedelics can help process personal emotional blockages and traumas that can affect the relationship. During a psychedelic session, repressed emotions can emerge and partners can be given the space to express and process these emotions. This can lead to greater emotional openness and connection within the relationship.
To have a better relationship with others, a good relationship with yourself is the most important. In psychedelic relationship therapy, it is recommended not to focus too much on the relationship and relationship therapy during the first session.
The recommended structure
Two psychedelic sessions for personal growth and connection with the partner. There is preferably approximately 4 weeks between the first and second session
Session 1: personal growth
The first session is all about personal growth and a better connection with yourself. During the first session we opt for introspection and individual therapy. This session can take place using MDMA or psilocybin. We prefer to do this session with psilocybin at a location where partners cannot influence each other, such as our location in Schiedam or an accommodation with multiple rooms.
The benefits of the 1st session:
- Working on your own trauma/problems
- Better insight into your own needs
- More self-acceptance
- Good basis for relationship therapy
Session 2: Deeper connection
The second session is intended to create better connection and openness between partners. This second psychedelic session is preferably with the aid of MDMA and is focused more on the interpersonal relationship than on personal introspection. Separate rooms are not required for this session.
The benefits of the 2nd session:
- More empathy
- Better communication
- Deeper emotional connection
- Improved intimacy
- More openness
Learn more about psychedelic therapy
Relationship therapy with psychedelics mainly uses psilocybin or MDMA. These two substances have the most potential for improving relationships and are also widely used for depression, trauma, PTSD, addiction and other complaints. To understand why these substances can contribute during psychedelic relationship therapy, it may be good to read what psychedelic therapy can mean on a personal level. We hereby provide an overview.
Psilocybin
Psilocybin therapy is known to work well for depression and various anxiety complaints. At higher doses it can become an introspective experience with spiritual or mystical effects that are difficult to explain. The therapeutic effects lie less in the verbal or cognitive, but in the processing at the experiential level.
MDMA
MDMA is known to remove fear and thus various blockages so that memory is not slowed down and trauma can be actively worked on. MDMA therapy can resemble exposure therapy while lacking the stress response. This makes processing emotions and traumatic experiences easier.
