The dream state makes you creative
The best ideas, which go beyond what we already know, are often created in a state of imagination or dreaming. REM sleep is also known as dream sleep: the phase of the night in which we primarily dream. During non-REM sleep, the brain primarily processes information you absorbed during the day. In the final phase, REM sleep, your brain starts working with that information: it makes new connections, without any logic involved. All of this happens under the influence of our own (psychedelic) neurotransmitters. These new connections give you new ideas, which often manifest through dreams. Unfortunately, we too often forget to truly utilize these dreams.

Use dream-like techniques
Meditation techniques also allow us to enter a dream state. Pretending to be asleep and dreaming also releases the body's own "psychedelics" that allow you to create new connections, fueling the creative process. Thinking outside the box becomes easier.
Psychedelic trips are similar to dreaming while awake
Psychedelics are a powerful tool that nature has given us. They allow us to exogenously induce a dream state while allowing us to adjust the dosage. From a super-low microdose, which slightly activates creativity while not hallucinating, to a dose higher than the body can typically produce. You'd think the very highest dose would spark the most creativity, but we don't know for sure yet. For now, it seems that a medium to high dose yields the most creativity, as the highest dose, the heroic dose, is generally less well understood.
Creativity or therapy?
In trip therapy, we primarily use psychedelics for their therapeutic effects. Stimulating creativity through meditation or psychedelics also has indirect therapeutic value. Their power lies in mimicking good sleep (biochemically). The newly created brain connections foster creativity, which in turn makes the brain healthier through the hormone BDNF. BDNF repairs and creates new nerve/brain cells. Besides good sleep, meditation, and psychedelics, you can also increase BDNF through diet, but the most comprehensive approach always works best.
