Combinations of psychedelics with other drugs often get their own names. For example, MDMA with psilocybin is called a hippie flip, MDMA with LSD a candy flip, and LSD with psilocybin a wizard flip. Besides the wizard flip, psilocybin combined with LSD is also called ‘god's flesh’, ‘Soul Bomb’ or ‘Alice’.

Psilocybin (from magic mushrooms or truffles) on its own can already cause quite a few hallucinations, and LSD takes it a step further. The visual effects of LSD are similar to 2C-B rather than psilocybin or ayahuasca. They are complex, algorithmic in shape, unstructured, many complex structures brightly lit, colourful, synthetic, multicoloured, flat, sharply defined, large, fast-moving, angular, lacking depth and consistently intense.
Visual effects of psilocybin
The visual patterns of psilocybin resemble those of DMT/ayahuasca. They are complex, abstract, organic, structured, bright, multicoloured, glossy, soft, large, slow, smooth, round and consistent in intensity. These visual perceptions feel “organic”, can sometimes appear ‘cartoony’ and are more intense at higher doses.

LSD is used less often as a therapeutic tool compared to other psychedelics, such as psilocybin. This is because LSD has a longer duration of action than other psychedelics, which means the effects last longer. This can be overwhelming for some people and make it more difficult to guide the session. In addition, the longer duration of action can also bring practical challenges, such as finding enough time and a suitable environment for the session.
Another reason is that LSD can offer a potentially more intense experience than other psychedelics. The effects of LSD can be profound and transformative, but this can also lead to intense emotions and overly strong hallucinations for too long a period. LSD is also virtually impossible to slow down if the trip turns unpleasant. This makes LSD less suitable for people who are new to psychedelics or who are sensitive to anxiety or feeling overwhelmed.
To still be able to make use of the potential therapeutic effects of LSD, we have frequently used a legal LSD analogue in combination with psilocybin from magic truffles with our clients. By carefully working out the dosage, the peak of the trip is manageable, whilst the effects of LSD are very much present. This wizard flip therefore offers a solution for those who do want to experience the effects of LSD, want to experience many visual effects, but do not want to be stuck in a trip for too long.
For individuals wanting a psychedelic session for the first time, we advise never starting with LSD. Gaining experience first with, for example, psilocybin would be better.
