Fibromyalgia is difficult to treat

Fibromyalgia is a condition that is difficult to treat due to several factors. First of all, fibromyalgia is a complex condition that is often accompanied by other symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, sleep problems and cognitive problems such as memory loss and concentration problems. This can make it difficult to identify and treat the specific symptoms of fibromyalgia.

Another problem in treating fibromyalgia is the lack of specific medications. While there are medications available to relieve the symptoms of the condition, such as painkillers and antidepressants, there is no drug that can treat the condition itself.

In addition, fibromyalgia varies from person to person, which makes treatment even more difficult. What works for one person may not work for another. This variability often makes it challenging to find an effective treatment that suits an individual patient.

Finally, fibromyalgia is still not fully understood, which makes it difficult to treat the condition. The cause of fibromyalgia is not yet fully understood, and there is still much that is not understood about how the condition works. More research is therefore needed to understand the underlying causes of the condition and develop more effective treatments. However, we think that Fibromyalgia is a result of inflammation of the body and possibly the brain.

Can psilocybin help?

We previously wrote about Fibromyalgia in May 2019 and that psychedelic therapy could help reduce the complaints. These messages can be found on the forum (Fibromyalgia). At the time we advised to be careful with allergens/gluten/lectins that can cause inflammation. For the time being, that is good advice that applies to more people. We suggested at the time that psilocybin therapy could also mean something through the stress-reducing properties of successful sessions. New research shows that psilocybin has an anti-inflammatory and therefore anti-inflammatory effect. If the hypothesis is correct that fibromyalgia is caused by inflammation, psilocybin can also help people with fibromyalgia through its anti-inflammatory effect.

Research psilocybin for fibromyalgia

In the past, positive results have been achieved when researching various psychedelics for pain. However, the size of the test groups was too small to draw conclusions. Still, the research suggests that positive results have been achieved. Additionally, a survey of individuals suffering from chronic pain who use psychedelics suggests the analgesic effects of such substances for those with fibromyalgia, arthritis, migraines, tension headaches, and sciatica.

A scientific study is also currently underway and has been in phase 2 of the study since 2021. It is expected that this study, which specifically focuses on psilocybin in fibromyalgia, will transition into a phase 3 study. This research is conducted by TRYP Therapeutics. Continuing to phase 3 shows that good results are likely to be achieved, but no results have yet been published publicly.

How does psilocybin work against fibromyalgia?

As we wrote earlier, psilocybin can work against fibromyalgia because psilocybin works against inflammation. However, psilocybin has more mechanisms of action. Another mechanism is to increase neurotrophin BDNF. Psilocybin will release more BDNF after conversion to psilocin. The image below shows that process.

BDNF (Brain-derived neurotrophic factor) is a protein essential for the growth, development and survival of neurons in the brain. BDNF also supports neuroplasticity, the brain's ability to adapt to changes in the environment and form new neural connections. Research has shown that people with Fibromyalgia have lower levels of BDNF than healthy people. This can lead to impaired neuroplasticity, which in turn can contribute to the tenderness and pain associated with fibromyalgia.

By stimulating BDNF production and increasing the availability of BDNF in the brain, treatments can improve neuroplasticity and potentially reduce symptoms of fibromyalgia. Some ways to promote BDNF production include exercise, healthy diet, socialization and stress reduction. Additionally, medications aimed at increasing BDNF levels in the brain can be used to improve neuroplasticity and reduce symptoms of fibromyalgia.

Avoiding food against fibromyalgia

To prevent as much inflammation as possible in the body and thus perhaps suppress Fibromyalgia as much as possible, we recommend avoiding the intake of the foods below as much as possible. Gluten and lectins can worsen the symptoms of fibromyalgia through low-grade inflammation. It is worth a try to eliminate gluten and lectins from the diet and then see if the symptoms diminish.

Gluten

  • Wheat
  • Rye
  • Barley
  • couscous
  • Bulgur
  • Semolina
  • Flower
  • Self-rising flour
  • Bread-crumbs
  • Cereal muesli or cruesli
  • Beer

Lectins

  • Cereals (whole grain)
  • Potatoes
  • Tomatoes
  • Beans
  • Soy sauce
  • Peanuts
  • Lentils
  • Peppers
  • Eggplant
  • Chickpeas
  • Dairy products

Healthy fats against fibromyalgia

It increasingly appears that unhealthy fats play an important role in the development of chronic conditions. These fats, also called oxidized fats, are present in foods that have been processed, fried or heated, for example. Oxidized fats can cause inflammatory reactions through various processes in our body. This can lead to damage to our tissues and thus cause chronic conditions such as Fibromyalgia. A better known example with scientific support of such a chronic condition is cardiovascular disease. It is therefore important to choose healthy fats and prevent or reduce the oxidation process of healthy fats by not frying too hot. Tips about healthy fats can be read in the article via the link.

Tripping against Fibromyalgia

The effective doses of psilocybin that are known to be anti-inflammatory are the amounts that can cause you to trip. Tripping means hallucinating and going on an internal journey. Psilocybin sessions can also be booked through our psychedelic services, where we help with preparation, the psilocybin session itself and the integration of insights gained. By choosing Triptherapie as an organizer you increase the chance of effectiveness. More than 2,000 customers have now used our knowledge. Complete the intake without obligation with your objectives and we will let you know what we can do for you.
